Game tests students' stock market skills

Students can learn first hand about financial markets and investing through a simulation game offered by the University of Cincinnati's Economics Center beginning Oct. 10.

The fall session of the Stock Market Game runs through Dec. 6. The 10-week game gives students in grades 4-12 the opportunity to learn about investing and saving by handling a virtual portfolio of $100,000.

Stock Market Game Winners Visit New York

On May 11, 2011 the Economics Center hosted the 2nd Regional Stock Market Game Portfolio Challenge. First, second and third place teams who participated in the fall, spring and year-long Stock Market Game were invited to present their winning portfolio to a panel of four judges for the chance to win a trip to New York City, an experience supported by Ohio National Financial Services.

Students prepare for Stock Market Game

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are signing up this fall to compete in a battle to prove who is the most financially saavy.

The annual Stock Market Game held by the University of Cincinnati's Economics Center for Education & Research kicks off Oct. 11. So far, 750 teams of three to five students from all over Southwest Ohio have signed up to compete.

The competition is designed to promote financial literacy and starts student teams with an imaginary $100,000 to invest in stocks and mutual funds from the New York, Nasdaq and American exchanges.

The Economics Center and the University of Cincinnati have launched a statewide portal for the Stock Market Game. Stock Market Game (SMG) Ohio (www.smgohio.org) was created for educators and students interested in financial education, while giving UC a chance to be promoted throughout the state. The
Economics Center partnered with the Cleveland Cavaliers to host the first Investment Challenge in the northeast region. Over 800 students are participating.

First Annual Stock Market Game Portfolio Challenge

For ten weeks, students throughout the state of Ohio are competing in an online simulation that introduces students to the stock market offered by the UC Economics Center for Education & Research called the Stock Market Game (SMG) Ohio. Students have created simulated portfolios by investing virtual money and researching companies. They are following real time stock market and learning about the economy.

Country Day Kids Win Stock Market Game

INDIAN HILL – Three Cincinnati Country Day Middle School eighth-graders, who called themselves Triple Threat, turned out to be the real deal, winning the fall session of the Stock Market Game, sponsored twice yearly by the Economic Center for Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati. Lauren Wiley of West Chester, Carter McMaster of Milford and Ashley Streit of Indian Hill, turned a mythical investment of $100,000 into $118,618.24 by the end of the 10-week game.
