Summer in Cincinnati
Have you ever wondered how a city, get’s its start? Have you considered what makes a place like Cincinnati great for business and prosperity. Participants of will learn to better understand Cincinnati’s neighborhoods and economy. They will gain an understanding on why jobs are scarce in some communities and abundant in others, why some jobs pay more than others, and how individuals from all backgrounds can become entrepreneurs and successful business owners.
The TL2 program begins with a tour of Cincinnati from its origin on 4th street to its grander at Union Terminal. The TL2 participants will have the great privilege of receiving a detailed explanation and stories of the past by the great Channel 12 producer/reporter and Cincinnati Historian, Dan Hurley.
While participating in the TL2 program, students have an opportunity to work for pay in a entrepreneurial project spearheaded by TL2’s professor, Daniel Barkley, PH.D. Students can work for his nonprofit EOTM, which runs and operates a concession stand at Reds games next summer. This opportunity provides students with some "entrepreneurial work experience."
Students will learn how to operate a business, money and management skills (scheduling), basic math (inventory and cash counts), reading comprehension and retail sales.
In addition to earning some extra summer cash, students learn about product differentiation, fixed and variable costs etc. Be sure to take advantage of this great opportunity.
