Distribution of Fiscal Impacts of Rickenbacker International Airport and Foreign-Trade Zone No. 138 for Selected Jurisdictions

Prepared for:
Rickenbacker Port Authority

The Rickenbacker International Airport and Foreign-Trade Zone No. 138 together play an important role in the regional economy. Their combined impact is particularly important for those local jurisdictions within which this Rickenbacker complex is located.

This report contains information on the fiscal benefits received by 13 neighboring jurisdictions: three school districts, two townships, six Franklin County municipalities, and two Pickaway County municipalities. Nearly 66 percent of the payroll taxes and 77 percent of the Franklin County property taxes generated by Rickenbacker economic activity is captured by these jurisdictions. In calendar year 2000, these 13 jurisdictions combined received a total of $9,356,908 in tax revenues as a result of this economic activity.

The Rickenbacker complex has an obvious economic impact on neighboring communities by providing thousands of jobs for their residents. But the impact extends further, to the revenue base of the jurisdictions themselves. For these communities, the ongoing presence and economic development of the Rickenbacker complex is vital to their own fiscal well-being.
