On May 12, 2010 more than 1,200 area elementary students (grades 3-6) from 15 local schools represented diverse Cincinnati communities and put their entrepreneurial spirit into practice at the Market Madness.

Dashing across the gym in search of bargain prices on items sold by their peers, more than 1,200 kids were learning a little something about the American business way of life.

It was all part of Market Madness, an annual event for students in grades 3 through 6, sponsored by the Economics Center for Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati.

"This is a great way to teach kids about simple economics that can help shape their future," said Val Krugh, director of the center's Student Enterprise Program.

Many thought leaders have written on the subject, and what we know today is that cities need to be socially diverse, accessible, “cool”, environmentally friendly, walkable and should offer a wide range of arts and entertainment activities to attract young creative people. While these insights were developed during more robust economics times, they are not completely invalid today. People’s location choices may have slightly changed after the downturn, especially creative individuals’.

On Friday, April 30th six teams from two local high schools competed in Students for Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) for a chance to go to Nationals in Buffalo, NY.

Cincinnati, OH – On Friday, April 30, 2010, the University of Cincinnati’s Economics Center will host Ohio's 6th annual Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition. The competition will be held at the University of Cincinnati in the College of Business (Linder Hall Room 109). Students from two local high schools will present business plans from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. to a panel of judges from the local business community.
