High School Students Compete in Business Competition for a Chance at Nationals
Cincinnati, OH – On Friday, April 30, 2010, the University of Cincinnati’s Economics Center will host Ohio's 6th annual Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition. The competition will be held at the University of Cincinnati in the College of Business (Linder Hall Room 109). Students from two local high schools will present business plans from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. to a panel of judges from the local business community. This year, six teams from Hughes and Ross High Schools will compete for a chance to attend the SAGE USA National competition in Buffalo, New York May 28-29. Teams selected from the national competition will compete in the international competition in Cape Town, South Africa this August.
Students will be judged on how well they integrated components such are civic engagement in democracy, environmental awareness and global markets into their entrepreneurship and community service ideas. The SAGE awards ceremony will immediately follow the presentations and lunch at 12:45 p.m. The winning team will be announced at that time.
Economics Center for Education & Research at the University of Cincinnati coordinates SAGE competition locally. John Morris, COO of the Economics Center for Education & Research noted, “Activities like the SAGE competition spark an entrepreneurial spirit in students as they acquire the skills and knowledge that can ensure them success and productivity beyond the classroom.” Economics Center’s SAGE competition was an excellent opportunity for schools and students involved to develop direct connections with a local University; all while learning, being creative and having fun.
PHOTO & INTERVIEWS: Competition on Friday, April 30 from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. is an excellent photo and journalistic opportunity as local students compete with their peers and showcase their business ideas in front of local business leaders. Students, their advisors and judges are available for interviews at the event.
