Economics Center Programs Designed to Meet New State Mandates

September 22, 2011

Cincinnati – The Economics Center at the University of Cincinnati offers teachers throughout Southwest Ohio professional development courses, focusing on integrating economics and financial literacy concepts into core curriculum to meet new requirements of Ohio Senate Bill 311, the “Ohio Core”. The bill requires school districts to work with local Centers for Economic Education around Ohio to address the new requirements for high school graduation. To provide more resources to local school districts, the Center has created two programs; new online professional development courses and the Ohio Core Integration Specialist SB 311 Certificate Program.

New Online Professional Development Courses:
The Center will make it more convenient for teachers to participate in professional development courses through new online opportunities. Educators can complete online courses over 10-weeks at their convenience. Graduate credit is offered to educators for a discounted payment (only $199/credit hour) thanks to a generous gift from the Alpaugh Family Foundation. For more information about these online opportunities and to register, visit www.economicscenter.org/distancelearning.

Ohio Core Integration Specialist SB 311Certificate Program:
This University of Cincinnati certificate program provides educators with techniques, content knowledge and resources to more effectively teach critical economic and personal financial concepts. Teachers will complete a program of professional development designed to improve their school district’s capacity to create and conduct more effective instructional programs in economics and personal finance. More information about the Certificate Program can be found at www.economicscenter.org/certificateprogram.
