Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders Summer Program Praised

Summer
2008

Twenty high school students from more than 15 local schools learned about Cincinnati’s economy through the Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders (TL2) program; the Economics Center’s first effort to offer economics education directly to local students. The first session of TL2 has graduated a cadre of young students with a purpose to interest and excite them about economics and the Cincinnati community.

During the three week program, the students were enrolled in an undergraduate Economics course and besides classroom, they learned about the local economy by touring Cincinnati’s businesses and successful industries. Students visited the facilities of Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati/NKY International Airport, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, and others.

John Morris, Education Director at the Economics Center shared, “The objective of TL2 is to establish a one-of-a-kind, high quality summer program for juniors and seniors of local high schools, and to generate, each year, a group of young, college-ready individuals who are excited about economics education.” After the pilot year, the Economics Center’s TL2 summer program is now established as a terrific opportunity for local high schools, and one that provides real value to students: rigorous academic content, insightful tours, and college credit.
