Building a Stronger Economy by Connecting Education Leaders to the Community
The Economics Center’s Alpaugh Scholars Leadership Program is designed in collaboration with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce and modeled after the highly successful Leadership Cincinnati Program. The program is an opportunity for local educators to get introduced to the local economy and current issues that affect schools and education. Since its beginning three years ago, the Alpaugh Leadership Program has attracted over 100 principals, superintendents, teachers and other school administrators from Southwest Ohio school districts. The Alpaugh Family has made the program possible.
The current class consists of 26 educators who participate in five interactive sessions; learning how to utilize business and community resources in their schools. In addition, the current Alpaugh Leaders are gaining knowledge of Cincinnati’s economy, enhancing their leadership skills and developing connections with the local business community. Program partners this year include representatives from the United Way, University of Cincinnati, City of Cincinnati, City of Blue Ash, City of Madeira, Hamilton County Commissioner’s Office, Employer Healthcare Alliance, Hamilton County Development Center, and Warren County Economic Development. Participants get a broad view of civic leadership through field trips. The program prepares educators for more active involvement in education and public affairs.
Each year, Alpaugh Leaders have the opportunity to go on a guided tour of Cincinnati, led by Dan Hurley. They learn about Cincinnati’s economy, history and politics.
The result is a community with more informed and vigorous school leadership: a leadership with a better understanding of the needs of Greater Cincinnati and a better ability educate our future workforce.
