Mason teacher honored as Financial Education Teacher of the Year

The University of Cincinnati’s Economics Center honored Mason High School teacher Cindy Donnelly earlier this month with its Financial Education Teacher of the Year award.
Donnelly, the chair of Mason’s technology and business department, was nominated for the award by Randy Doughman, the district’s secondary technology curriculum leader, for her contributions to education outside of the classroom.
“Cindy is so deserving of this award. Her innovation and commitment to entrepreneurial and “real-world” application gives our students a competitive advantage and ensures their success in college, career, and life.” said Amy Spicher, assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
Donnelly led a team of teachers in the creation of the curriculum and instructional design of a financial literacy court required for all students. She then collaborated with universities and colleges so that students can receive dual high school and college credit for the course.
To provide students with a real world application of finances, Donnelly established the Comet Savings and Loan school bank. She also helps with the Comet Zone, a spirit wear store, and the student-maintained website www.masoncomets.org.
