Stock Market Game Ohio (SMG Ohio)

The Stock Market Game is the ultimate way to maximize 21st Century Learning in the classroom through investing and financial markets, all while teaching math, economics, social studies and language arts team building and research. In the Stock Market Game (SMG), students create simulated stock portfolios, invest virtual money, research companies and follow the real time stock market.  It is a fun, online simulation that will allow you to introduce your students to the stock market, energize your classroom, and sharpen your students' critical thinking skills.

SMG KidsThe SMG curriculum is age-appropriate for elementary, middle and high school students and is a flexible teaching tool. Even if you have never played the Ohio Stock Market Game, or don't know a lot about how to teach about investing, our online Teacher Support Center gives you fun, well organized, turn-key lesson plans that will help you bring the SMG to your classroom. Our SMG Coordinator is also available to support you and your teams throughout the ten-week SMG competition.

Did you know:

The recent survey by the Jump$tart Coalition on Financial Literacy, showed that students who participate in the Stock Market Game consistently outperform their peers on tests of financial knowledge. Because of its highly interactive nature, the Stock Market Game allows students to retain more financial knowledge than students who have taken part in other forms of financial literacy education - even a full semester financial literacy course. The Stock Market is the only stock market simulation supported by the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ.

How the Stock Market Game works:

Students start with a virtual $100,000 cash account. Teachers utilize our curriculum to teach about long-term savings and investing. Working in teams, students research and evaluate companies and decide how they want to invest their funds. Teams compete against other students in their grade division across our region.  During the game, students follow the news and learn how current events shape the market and the economy. Math is given application as teams calculate how changes in their stock prices affect their portfolio's value.

SMG has several games to play!

We are excited to offer three game options this school year.
