Course Description

A FREE workshop which will show teachers how to utilize the tools, and pages on the SMG simulation. The Stock Market Game is a 30 + year program which takes teaching out of the text book and applies it to the real world. Students pair into teams with their classmates and decide how they will invest $100,000 an introduction to the basics of financial markets, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, investment strategies, and instructional resources - including how to play the Stock Market Game from.

Last year, teams that had the winning portfolio had the chance to travel to New York City and meet business professional at leading investment firms!

Use of Stock Market Game has proven to increase students performance on standardized tests in Economics, Personal Finance and MATH!

Learn how to play the Stock Market Game and get tips from teachers that have won valuable prizes that come with participation. Interested in ringing the opening bell at the NYSE?

This program is recommended for all teachers, grades 4-12 that want to get their students engaged in real learning. High school teachers could offer college credit to thier students.

Graduate Credit Requirements:

To earn (1) quarter hours of graduate credit, you must:

  • Attend workshop
  • Administer the SMG pre & post test to your group of students, and turn in results to your state coordinator.
  • Administer 1 lesson for each phase of the SMG program (listed below).
    1. Before You Invest
    2. Selecting Your Investment
    3. Tracking Your Investments
    4. At The End of The Trading Session
  • Administer one “Math Behind the Market” lesson.
  • And, write an assessment of your students’ growth through the process.

To earn (2) quarter hours of graduate credit, you must:

  • Do the work listed above for for 1 credit hour, then create a lesson for each of the SMG program phases (4) total:
    1. Before You Invest
    2. Selecting Your Investment
    3. Tracking Your Investments
    4. At the End of The Trading Sessions
