Course DescriptionJoin us for five engaging days, learning the concepts of microeconomics (markets, supply and demand, productive resources, production decisions, etc.) and engage in activities that make cross-curricular lessons come to life. Presentations, simulation activities, and discussion will build understanding of the basic microeconomics concepts while introducing current business and economic issues. One primary activity for the week is “The High School Food Court”, an engaging microeconomics simulation. The 2012 Summer Institute is on Microeconomics content. The 2013 Summer Institute will be on Macroeconomics content. No economics teaching experience is necessary – a good start for those new to teaching a high school economics course. The 2012 Summer Institute will focus on microeconomics. The 2013 program will focus on macroeconomics. We provide refreshments and lunch each day, plus materials. This program is open to all educators, but the instructional activities used in the program are designed for the secondary grades, specifically those who teach economics courses or economics content within other social studies or business courses. Alternate classroom materials will be available for any elementary teachers who participate.
