Course Description

You are invited to participate in the Alpaugh Scholars Leadership Program conducted by the Economics Center in cooperation with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce. This is an opportunity for a select group of Southwest Ohio Educators to interact with business and government leaders and community organizations in Cincinnati. Enhance your ability to lead and teach in the 21st Century through better understanding of the needs of your community, its leaders. and its employers? This sessions will better connect you to the Cincinnati area community.

Who will lead our communities and our schools? Is it your turn to join this prestigious group of educators? The Alpaugh Scholars meet with community leaders in five interactive sessions between October 2010 and February 2011, for discussions about social services, local governments, economic development, the "state" of the community, and their impact on schools. How do local, state and national issues impact schools? How can schools better work with their communities?

Connecting Educators and the Community

The 2010-2011 Alpaugh Scholars Leadership Program sessions include:

October 12, 2010 The State of the Community (introductory session, 4:30-7:30 pm at UC)

November 9, 2010 Cincinnati History, Geography and Economy Tour with Dan Hurley (8:30 am – 4:00 pm)

December 7, 2010 Health and Human Services, (United Way Offices, 11:30 – 4:00)

January 12, 2011 Regional Government Issues, (Cincinnati City Hall, 11:30 – 4:00)

February 8, 2011 Economic and Community Development (Chamber, 11:30 – 4:00)

• Encourage the utilization of business and community resources in your school.

• Enhance knowledge and interactions of educators with business and community leaders.

• Gain access to the University of Cincinnati’s teacher resources.

• Enhance your leadership skills and get to know our regional communities
